Japan fastener (of steel or iron) imports hit record high in 2014 with import value up 35.3% year-on-year to 97 billion yen, the fifth consecutive year of growth since 2010.

Although imports of fasteners by volume fell 2.1% to 257,824 tons, the first drop since 2010 and the second highest in history.

The good performance of Japan fastener imports in 2014 should be attributed to the urgent demand to improve the consumption tax and the Abenomics which led to the Yen devaluation and the rise of import price.

Japan fastener exports value also hit record high with the total amount to 301.1 billion yen, the third consecutive year of growth. The export volume declined 1.7% to 346,493 tons, the first decrease since 2012.
