According to statistics from China Customs, import and export values of Haiyan for the first nine months of 2010 were up 52.3 percent, with exports up 44.0 percent to $ 868.76 million, the highest export growth in Jiaxing city, reported Jiaxing Daily.

Exports of iron or steel products including fasteners and stainless steel pipes were strong with a significant rise of 58.4 percent to $ 316.35 million.

Besides, electronic & electrical instruments and apparatus kept fast growth, up 100.7 percent to $ 115.47 million, higher than the average growth of 13.3 percent for the whole county.

On market side, exports to those developing markets kept rising. Exports to ASEAN were up 74 percent to $ 50.37 million. Zhejiang New Oriental Co., Ltd, Jiaxing Brother Standard Parts Co., Ltd. and the like companies were all the beneficiaries of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. Exports to Africa rose 42.6 percent to $ 31.25 million and to Oceania up 45.1 percent to $ 24.10 million. EU, America and Japan remained the chief importers with imports up 45.5 percent to $ 232.20 million, 41.4 percent to $184.12 million and 11.7 percent to $ 65.96 million, respectively.

Export data of Haiyan for October was also released with the total value of $ 87 million. “Although exports for the first nine months show slight growth compared with the same period of 2008, whether the coming two months can remain the same growth is unpredictable because there are too many existing uncertainties such as the fluctuation of the prices of raw materials and the exchange rate of RMB, and the policy of energy-saving and emission-reduction, all of which will have great impact on exports,” an official from Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Haiyan County said, “However, the total export value of 2010 will reach the highest level of that of 2008.”
